Biography
Aminata Savadogo, also known as Aminata, is a Latvian singer, songwriter, record producer, and model. She was born on January 9, 1993, in Riga. Savadogo’s mother is of Latvian and Russian descent, while her father is Burkinabé. However, she primarily identifies herself as Latvian. Her musical journey began at the age of 13 when she started singing and receiving private tutoring. She attended the Bolderāja Music and Art School in Riga, where she specialized in flute.
At the age of 15, Savadogo participated in the Latvian television show Krodziņā pie Paula and later competed in Muzikālā banka at 17. She also joined the Golden Choir for Koru kari 3, the Latvian version of Clash of the Choirs. Her international breakthrough came in 2014 when she competed in Dziesma 2014, the Latvian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song “I Can Breathe.” She qualified for the final and finished in fifth place.
In 2015, Savadogo returned to the Latvian Eurovision national selection, Supernova 2015, and won with the song “Love Injected.” She went on to represent Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. Savadogo released her debut studio album, “Inner Voice,” on April 8, 2015. She achieved great success in the competition, qualifying for the final and finishing in sixth place overall.
Savadogo continued her music career, releasing the single “Fighter” in 2016 and announcing her second studio album, “Red Moon,” which was released in October of that year. She also participated in the fifth season of Golos, the Russian version of The Voice.
Throughout her career, Savadogo has been involved in songwriting for other artists. She wrote the song “I’m Like a Wolf” for Lithuanian singer Aistė Pilvelytė, who competed in the Supernova 2017, the Latvian final for the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2020, she co-wrote the song “Still Breathing” for Samanta Tīna, who was selected to represent Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 (which was ultimately canceled). Savadogo also co-wrote Tīna’s song “The Moon Is Rising” for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
In September 2021, Savadogo co-wrote a song with DJ Rudd for Dons called “Tas rakstīts debesīs (Piena ceļš)”. The song received nominations for Song of the Year and Top Radio Hit at the 2022 Latvian Music Recording Awards. With the song “Letting you go”, she parcicipated in Supernova 2022 and became 2nd. Aminata became the brand ambassador for Mangali Plus mineral water.
Meanwhile, Aminata teamed up with Būū for the song “Kur saule”, which was released on 7 June 2022. On 19 July a new EP, “Savvaļas pusē”, came out. The EP was combined with a concert two weeks later. In September, a video of the song “Afrodite” was released. She also took part in the show Dejo ar zvaigzni (Dancing with the stars).
On 4 April 2023, Aminata released a new song and video, “Paisums.Bēgums”.
