Biography

Ladislav Demeterffy, known by his stage name 75 Cents, was a Croatian singer born on January 29, 1933, in Zagreb. He gained international recognition at the age of 75 when he represented Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008, performing the song “Romanca” alongside the band Kraljevi Ulice. His stage name humorously referenced his age at the time.

Before his Eurovision appearance, Demeterffy was a well-known figure in Zagreb’s music scene, often performing as a street musician. His collaboration with Kraljevi Ulice, whose name translates to “Kings of the Street,” was a natural fit, blending traditional urban music with his charismatic presence.

At the Eurovision Song Contest held in Belgrade, Serbia, “Romanca” successfully advanced from the semi-finals, securing fourth place with 112 points. In the grand final, the performance achieved 21st place with 44 points. Demeterffy’s participation made him the oldest performer in Eurovision history at that time.

Ladislav Demeterffy passed away on November 19, 2010, in Zagreb, at the age of 77. His unique contribution to Croatian music, particularly his memorable Eurovision performance, remains a celebrated part of the country’s cultural history.
