First semifinal Beovizija

Tonight, the first semifinal of Beovizija, the Serbian national final, will be held. You can watch it here at 21:00 CET. Of the twelve competing songs, six will head to the final. They will be chosen by an expert jury and the audience. The songs are: EJO, “Trag” Milica Mišić, “Kiša” Ivan Kurtić & Mistik Cello, “Sabajle” Thea Devy, “Sudnji dan” Karizma, “Ona me zna” Andrija Jo, “”Oči Meduze” Sanja Bogosavljević, “Ne puštam” Marko Marković, “Kolači” Srđan Lazić, “Duša i telo” Neda Ukraden, “Bomba” Bilja & Amvon duo, “Raj” Igor Simić, “Ples za rastanak” Ivan Kurtić took part in Beovizija in 2018 and 2019. Neda Ukraden can be called ‘grand old lady’ of Beovizija. She took part in the Yugoslav national selection of 1969, 1975, 1976, 1981 and 1986.

Although the official presentation of the German entry for the Eurovision Song Contest will take place tonight at 21:30 CET, the facts are known already: Benjamin Dolic will represent the country. Slovenian born Benjamin Dolic has lived in Switzerland and participated in The Voice of Germany. The song is written by Boris Milanov, who was also responsible for the songs “Beautiful mess” (Bulgaria 2017) and “Nobody but you” (Austria 2018).

Photo: Empire rights management In fact, it was already a strong rumour the last few days, but this morning, it is confirmed: James Newman will represent the United Kingdom in the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. The song is called “My last breath” and is written and composed by James himself, Iain Farquharson, Adam Argyle and Edward Drewett. Farquharson, a.k.a. Iain James, co-wrote the 2011 winning Eurovision song “Running scared” for Azerbaijan.James Newman is the brother of hitsinger John Newman and wrote several hits himself. He worked together with a.o. Calvin Harris and Armin van Buuren.

Poland has chosen. An expert jury and televoters both chose Alicja Szemplińska as their favorite, so she will represent Poland in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam with the song “Empire”. The final decision out of these two will be made by the Slovenian televoter. The show will be hosted by Klemen Slakonja.
