🇮🇸 Iceland: Söngvakeppnin part 2

Iceland continues with Söngvakeppnin tonight. It is, already since 1986, the Icelandic national final. This year, 5 songs compete in each semifinal. Two of them go to the final, along with one wildcard. In the final, the songs can be sung in any language. In the semifinals, they have to be sung in Icelandic. The show starts at 20.45 CET and you can watch it here. Tonight´s contestants are: Hera Björk sings “Við förum hæarra” Heiðrún Anna sings “Þjakaður af ást” Bashar Murad sings “Vestrið villt” Sigga Ózk sings “Um allan alheiminn” Maiaa sings “Fljúga burt”   Hera Björk represented Iceland in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Je ne sais quoi”. She took part in 2007 (semifinals), was the runner up in the 2009 Danish Melodi Grand Prix and 3rd in Söngvakeppnin 2019. Sigga Ózk reached the final last year. The connection from Palestinian Bashar Murad with Iceland is the fact that, in 2019, he collaborated with Hatari in the song “Klefi/Samed”. This is, however, his first attempt in Eurovision.

Melodifestivalen, the Swedish national selection, continues with a fourth heat. As Sweden is the host country, the winning song will go directly to the final. Two songs will go directly to the final, two other songs will go for ‘final qualification’, something that will be decided after the 5th heat. 🇮🇱 Israel: Kan makes a statement about withdrawal

Today, Israeli broadcaster Kan made a statement about withdrawal from the Eurovision Song Contest. While Eden Golan was chosen to represent the country, it might be the song that causes a withdrawal. The song, “October rain”, is on investigation by the EBU; one of the rules of the contest is that no politics are allowed in the lyrics. To the Huffington post, an EBU spokesperson said: The EBU is currently in the process of scrutinising the lyrics, a process which is confidential between the EBU and the broadcaster until a final decision has been taken. All broadcasters have until 11 March to formally submit their entries.If a song is deemed unacceptable for any reason, broadcasters are then given the opportunity to submit a new song or new lyrics, as per the rules of the Contest. This is the statement Kan published in response to “October rain” being investigated: It should be noted that as far as the Israel Broadcasting Corporation is concerned, there is no intention to replace the song. Meaning, if it is not approved by the European Broadcasting Union – Israel will not be able to participate in the competition that will be held in Sweden this coming May.

🇧🇪 Belgium: Mustii sings “Before the party’s over”

photo: RTBf This morning, the Belgian entry “Before the party’s over” has been presented. The song will be sung by Mustii. Belgium will perform in the 2nd half of the 2nd semifinal. The lyrics are written by Mustii himself along with Arianna Damato, Charlotte Clark, Nina Sampermans. The latter is a familiar name in Eurovision: she wrote “Would you” for Iris (Belgium 2012), “Tout l’univers” for Gjon’s Tears (Switzerland 2021) and “Bridges” for Alika (Estonia 2023). The song is composed by Mustii, Pierre Dumoulin and Benoit Leclerq. Dumoulin was responsible for two Belgian entries: “City lights” in 2017 and “Wake up” in 2019. Due to a mistake, made by RTBf’s radio station for youngsters, TIPIK, the song was leaked already. Sunday evening, the radio station already played the song. The result was that almost everywhere on the internet, “Before the party’s over” could be found. However, below you’ll find the official video as published by EBU.

Eurovizija.LT has, after 5 heats and a final, been whon by Silvester Belt. He will sing for Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. Their song is called “Luktelk” and is written and composed by Džesika Šyvokaitė, Elena Jurgaitytė and Silvester himself. Lithuania will perform in the first half of the first semifinal. 🇭🇷 Croatia: 1st semifinal of DORA

Tonight, the first of two semifinals of DORA will be held. Since 1993, when Croatia first took part, DORA is the national final. In tonight’s semifinal, 12 songs will compete, 8 of which will go to the final, next Sunday. The show will start at 20:15 CET and you can watch it here and on YouTube. 🇮🇱 Israel: Kan makes a statement about withdrawal

Today, Israeli broadcaster Kan made a statement about withdrawal from the Eurovision Song Contest. While Eden Golan was chosen to represent the country, it might be the song that causes a withdrawal. The song, “October rain”, is on investigation by the EBU; one of the rules of the contest is that no politics are allowed in the lyrics. To the Huffington post, an EBU spokesperson said: The EBU is currently in the process of scrutinising the lyrics, a process which is confidential between the EBU and the broadcaster until a final decision has been taken. All broadcasters have until 11 March to formally submit their entries.If a song is deemed unacceptable for any reason, broadcasters are then given the opportunity to submit a new song or new lyrics, as per the rules of the Contest. This is the statement Kan published in response to “October rain” being investigated: It should be noted that as far as the Israel Broadcasting Corporation is concerned, there is no intention to replace the song. Meaning, if it is not approved by the European Broadcasting Union – Israel will not be able to participate in the competition that will be held in Sweden this coming May.

🇧🇪 Belgium: Mustii sings “Before the party’s over”

photo: RTBf This morning, the Belgian entry “Before the party’s over” has been presented. The song will be sung by Mustii. Belgium will perform in the 2nd half of the 2nd semifinal. The lyrics are written by Mustii himself along with Arianna Damato, Charlotte Clark, Nina Sampermans. The latter is a familiar name in Eurovision: she wrote “Would you” for Iris (Belgium 2012), “Tout l’univers” for Gjon’s Tears (Switzerland 2021) and “Bridges” for Alika (Estonia 2023). The song is composed by Mustii, Pierre Dumoulin and Benoit Leclerq. Dumoulin was responsible for two Belgian entries: “City lights” in 2017 and “Wake up” in 2019. Due to a mistake, made by RTBf’s radio station for youngsters, TIPIK, the song was leaked already. Sunday evening, the radio station already played the song. The result was that almost everywhere on the internet, “Before the party’s over” could be found. However, below you’ll find the official video as published by EBU.

Eurovizija.LT has, after 5 heats and a final, been whon by Silvester Belt. He will sing for Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. Their song is called “Luktelk” and is written and composed by Džesika Šyvokaitė, Elena Jurgaitytė and Silvester himself. Lithuania will perform in the first half of the first semifinal.
