Greece: Victor Vernicos’ song presented

It took longer than planned, but finally here it is: the Greek entry for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. It was not an easy road to Liverpool and it still isn’t. After the (internal) national selection, runner up Melissa Mantzoukis objected. There were three shortlisted songs and artists, but one of them withdrew. However, votes for the withdrawn songs were still counted. Also, the point values awarded do not sum to the quantity of points available. If they had, Melissa Mantzoukis would have won. On 6 March, court decided that there was not enough time left to change the entry. The deadline was too close. Victor Vernicos therefore remains the Greek contestant. The song Victor wrote himself is called “What they say”. Greece will perform at the first half of the second semifinal.

Mimicat is the artist for Portugal

National final season is over. Mimicat won the Portuguese final Festival Da Canção 2023. She will sing the song “Ai, coração”, which is written by Marisa Mena and composed by Marisa Mena and Luís Perreira. Mimicat won the national final after an exciting voting. The jury voting resulted in a tie between Mimicat and Edmundo Inácio, but the televoter chose Mimicat. This is the full result: Mimicat, “Ai, coração”, 24 pt. Edmundo Inácio, “A festa”, 22 pt. Loreen wins Melodifestivalen 2023 in Sweden

The one and only Loreen has just made even more history than she already has. The 39 year old singer has won Melodifestivalen 2023, and will represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.   Two weeks ago, when Loreen rehearsed “Tattoo” for the first time, she skyrocketed in the Melodifestivalen odds to first place. Not only did she get herself to first place, she also made a magnificent impact on the Eurovision odds. For months Ukraine was first, but as of writing Sweden holds the first place with a 38% chance of winning.   We all know Loreen, as she has won Eurovision before in 2012 with her pop hit “Euphoria”. The song remains one of the most popular Eurovision songs of all time.  Loreen has participated 3 times in Melodifestivalen before. Her first time was in 2010, where she took part with “My Heart Is Refusing Me”. In the end she only got to the Andra Chansen round. In 2017 she took part another time with “Statements”. Festival da Canção will reach it’s final tonight. That makes the Portuguese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest the last one for this year. Only a few internal selected songs are not published yet. Festival da Canção has 13 songs this year. There were supposed to be twelve, but due to technichal issues an extra song had been added from the first semifinal. Loreen is the huge favourite to win Melodifestivalen 2023 with her song “Tattoo”. Bookmakers give the singer a chance of 86% to win the contest. As soon as her song was presented two weeks ago, Sweden is the top favourite even to win the entire contest. But…. nothing has been decided yet. That is what Ictimai, the Azerbaijani broadcaster, announced today.  TuralTuranX was one of five shortlisted artists/groups for the job. The duo consists of the 22 year old twins Tural and Turan. They are street performers from Zaqatala in the north of Azerbaijan. The brothers will perform in the 2nd half of the 1st semifinal. The song is not yet published. Mae Muller will represent hostcountry United Kingdom in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. That was reveiled this morning in Zoe Ball’s BBC 2 Breakfast Show.As the United Kingdom is one of the Big Five ánd the host country, the song “I wrote a song” will be placed directly in the final.  The song is written by Mae herself in cooperation with Lewis Thompson and Karen Poole. Tonight, Israel’s Noa Kirel presented her Eurovision Song “Unicorn”. Already in August last year, we knew that Noa is going to represent her country in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. The title of the song, “Unicorn”, has been announced already in January. Finally, we can also listen to the song. The song is written and composed by  by Doron Medalie, Yinon Yahel and May Sfadia. The song is called “Who the hell is Edgar” and is written and composed by Teya (Teodora Spirić) and Salena (Selina-Maria Edbauer) themselves along with Ronald Janeček and Pele Loriano. Yesterday, a teaser appeared on the site of ORF, the Austrian broadcaster. From today, we can listen to the Austrian entry. It will be presented in the 2nd half of the 2nd semifinal.

Portugal: Festival da Canção, the last national final

Festival da Canção will reach it’s final tonight. That makes the Portuguese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest the last one for this year. Only a few internal selected songs are not published yet. Festival da Canção has 13 songs this year. Sweden: Loreen favourite in Melodifestivalen

Loreen is the huge favourite to win Melodifestivalen 2023 with her song “Tattoo”. Bookmakers give the singer a chance of 86% to win the contest. Azerbaijan: TuralTuranX goes to Liverpool

photo: Eurovision.tv There was news about Azerbaijan today. We know now that the duo TuralTuranX will represent this country. That is what Ictimai, the Azerbaijani broadcaster, announced today.  TuralTuranX was one of five shortlisted artists/groups for the job. The duo consists of the 22 year old twins Tural and Turan. They are street performers from Zaqatala in the north of Azerbaijan. The brothers will perform in the 2nd half of the 1st semifinal. The song is not yet published. Mae Muller will represent hostcountry United Kingdom in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. Israel: this is how “Unicorn” sounds

Tonight, Israel’s Noa Kirel presented her Eurovision Song “Unicorn”. Already in August last year, we knew that Noa is going to represent her country in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. The title of the song, “Unicorn”, has been announced already in January. Finally, we can also listen to the song. The song is written and composed by  by Doron Medalie, Yinon Yahel and May Sfadia. Austria: “Who the hell is Edgar” is the song!

photo: ORF Teya and Salena, the duo that represents Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, just presented their song. It premiered this morning. The song is called “Who the hell is Edgar” and is written and composed by Teya (Teodora Spirić) and Salena (Selina-Maria Edbauer) themselves along with Ronald Janeček and Pele Loriano. Yesterday, a teaser appeared on the site of ORF, the Austrian broadcaster. From today, we can listen to the Austrian entry. It will be presented in the 2nd half of the 2nd semifinal.
