Tonight, 26 songs and artists will compete in the Italian Festival of Sanremo. After the contest, the first question at the winner’s press conference will be asked by Eduardo Anselmo, Italian head of delegation for Eurovision: “Are you going to Eurovision?”. The winner has the first choice to do so, but can also reject the ticket. The show starts at 21.00 CET and you can watch it here. Sweden is about to add four more songs to the final of Melodifestivalen. Tonight it is time for “Andra Chancen”, where songs that didn’t make it to the final can still get the ticket. Tonight is also the night for Denmark: in their national final Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, eight entries will fight for the ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. The songs are: Egert Milder – Free Again Suured tüdrukud – Heaven’s Not That Far Tonight Hans Nayna – One By One Ivo Linna, Robert Linna, Supernova – Ma olen siin Karl Killing – Kiss Me Uku Suviste – The Lucky One Sissi – Time Jüri Pootsmann – Magus melanhoolia Redel – Tartu Koit Toome – We Could Have Been Beautiful Andrei Zevakin & Pluuto – Wingman Kadri Voorand – Energy Egert Milder took part in Eesti Laul 2015 but didn’t reach the final. In 2020 he became 4th. Kaire Vilgats (Suured tüdrukud) became 8th in 1998 and 9th in 2009.  Karl Killing became 6th in 2018. And there is another song online. It is the song Hurricane will sing for Serbia: “Loco Loco”. The song is composed by Darko Dimitrov and Nemanja Antonić, while group member Sanja Vučić wrote the lyrics. Last year, Hurricane was supposed to represent Serbia with the song “Hasta la vista”. This year, they will get a new chance.

Armenia withdraws

After many speculations about whether Athena Manoukyan would represent Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest or not, another decision has been made by Armenian broadcaster AMPTV: Armenia will not participate in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. The news was published by Head of Press David Tserunyan, who posted this on Twitter: “Very sad to announce that despite our best efforts, Armenia will not participate at @Eurovision 2021. The events that followed after the confirmation of our participation have made it impossible to organize an entry in time for this month’s deadline. #ESC2021 #Armenia.” He doesn’t give any details about what events he meant, but due to the political situation in Armenia they didn’t participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as well. Hopefully we will see Armenia back in the Eurovision Song Contest next year.

Australia brings song in technicolour

The Australian song is online now too. While Europe was asleep, Montaigne published her entry “Technicolour”. Montaigne wrote the song herself together with Dave Hammer. She will perform in the 1st semifinal. This weekend, Montaigne will perform the song live for the first time. Last year, Montaigne won the national selection with the song “Don’t break me”. Due to the cancellation of the contest, she never represented her country. This year, it is gonna be her turn…

Moldova: Natalia Gordienko to sing “Sugar”

It was already known for a longer time: “Sugar” is the song Natalia Gordienko is going to sing for Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest. Tonight, in a show from Moscow, the song was presented. Why Moscow? Well, it’s not that strange, as Philipp Kirkorov is one of the composers. He is accompanied by Dimitris Kontopoulos. Sharon Vaughn is responsible for the lyrics. Together they make up the so-called ‘Dream team’. Natalia Gordienko is not new to Eurovision. In 2006 she represented Moldova together with Arsenium and Connect-R. They sang “Loca”. Last year, Natalia was supposed to represent Moldova with the song “Prison”. This year, she got a new chance.

After many speculations about whether Athena Manoukyan would represent Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest or not, another decision has been made by Armenian broadcaster AMPTV: Armenia will not participate in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.
